Loro Parque

On my family holiday in Tenerife with my husband and two young kids, we were having a fantastic time – the weather was lovely and the beach was great! But after a few days of relaxing in the sun, we wanted to do something different which the children would really enjoy. We’d heard good things about a place called Loro Parque, which is a wildlife centre in the north of the island and we found loads of companies that did excursions there so it was really easy to get to. The kids were so excited and when we got there it was like an amazing tropical paradise! I was really impressed with the range of exotic animals; they had hundreds of parrots as well as tigers, gorillas, chimps and sharks.

We were walking around the park for a while, which was beautiful and very nicely set out with gorgeous plants and wild flowers everywhere. The themed areas, like the Australian Katandra Treetops were a great idea and the children really enjoyed exploring the jungle paths along the treetops and trying to spot the wild birds. Around lunch time we went in search for somewhere to eat which can sometimes be a bit of a nightmare when you have a hungry, young family to please. But at Loro Parque we found so many options – I had to drag my husband away from the tasty looking BBQ grill and we settled on a nice little café called Bambu Bar where the menu was both child and parent-friendly and there was a play area for the kids so my husband and I could sit back for a bit with a coffee and everyone was happy.

After lunch we went to see one of the shows. Our only complaint about the Park was that there were too many things to see, we just couldn’t fit it all in. There were sea lion shows, dolphin shows and parrot shows. In the end we decided on the Orca show and we all absolutely LOVED it, it was fantastic! Luckily it was such a hot day because after that performance, we were soaked – a warning to anyone that wants to go, don’t sit near the front if you’re not prepared to get splashed!

The zoo was just amazing, it was definitely the highlight of our holiday to Tenerife and the kids couldn’t wait to tell their friends about all the things we’d seen. The park was so clean and well kept, and there was so much going on I would definitely come back next time and would recommend it to anyone.
